Many travellers ask about the etiquette of Japan and two small points make a big difference.
- Tipping: You don’t tip in Japan. Remarkably, high end service is the norm. So, a polite “arigatou gozaimasu” is enough.
- Onsen etiquette: Always wash properly. You also have to stop talking, don’t wear swimming costumes, and don’t wear a swimsuit. The purpose of onsens is to reflect – and so it deserves quiet.
